VOLUNTEER Newsletter 23
Hi all
Happy New Year and Welcome to all our New Volunteers. What a busy time it has been at the Cinema, let’s hope it continues through 2025!
Toilet Duties
Shifts are now largely planned to give a ‘half an hour window’ before films start. This should give plenty of time to check the toilets at the beginning of a shift. Just to ensure that this routine job is not forgotten, we are going to ask you to sign to say that you have done a check whilst on your shift.
So, starting on 1st February please sign the ‘toilet check’ column in the Volunteer book. (This was the ‘Volunteer Column.’ ) Please sign with your initials, and If for some reason you were not able to do a check please put ‘not checked’
Please check;
-
The level of paper towels in the dispenser and refill if necessary.
-
That there is a good supply of toilet paper in each cubicle and refill if needed.
-
That the toilets are flushed and clean. Use gloves and spray to wipe if needed. Ask for FOH to help if more cleaning is necessery.

Volunteer Newsletter 22
Hi all
Business has been picking up after a slow Summer! October has been a good Month and November looks to match it! It is encouraging that we are getting a lot more ‘walk-ins,’ so even if it does not look busy on the ActOne website things could well be different at the Cinema.
So two things...
-
Please please sign upon RotaCentral, it saves FOH staff time as they often have to ask for help on Rapid Response
-
Come down for your shift anyway unless there has been a specific message (on Rapid Response) not to.
New Programmers for ActOne films
ActOne has been programmed by the Independent Cinema Oiffice since mid- October and you may have noticed the increased number of films over half term. It does mean that we get to know what films are showing two weeks on advance, so we now have the usual A4 print out of the Current week and one for following, ‘Next’ week. There will be a copy on the Volunteer desk.
Events at ActOne
Please keep a look out on Rota Central for extra shifts, Oscar will put them in when needed:
For example; on Saturday there is a Birthday (cake ) party in the lounge following a screening of Paddington then there is the Jazz night in the Lounge.
-
Ealing Film Festival on November 26th looks to be busy with two tranches of Short films with and Award Ceremony afterwards.
-
We also have a regular programme of non-film events such as Open Mic, Jazz Night and Comedy Evening.
Christmas Period
At ActOne- There will be a Christmas package of films and opening hours will be confirmed
November 24th- Christmas Market, from 10-6pm on the Mount. Switching on of Lights at 4pm and Performers from 4 pm. We will be having a stand and will need helpers!
November 30th- St Peters Christmas Fair-11-3pm. More details will follow.
December 14th - Churchfield Road Craft Market- volunteer or two needed to distribute leaflets.
New Volunteers and Social Media
We are always keen to have new volunteers so please keep a look out! Please get anyone interested to email Amanda: amanda@actonecinema.co.uk or give them one of the small cards or flyers that we have on our desk.
And.. another reminder to encourage people to leave reviews on google if they have enjoyed their Actone cinema experience. https://g.page/r/CRWdQxjLgx8xEB0/review

VOLUNTEER Newsletter 21
It has been a while since the last Newsletter and a lot has been happening! Most recently, the Cinema has had quite a facelift, with help from professional painters, the staff and volunteers managed to work was carried out over a period of 10 days with events in between! It involved steam cleaning of the auditoria, painting, installation of a new projector and improvements to the sound quality in Screen 1. Quite a feat of planning, organisation and hard work! Many thanks to the Volunteers who helped with painting, trips to the tip and cleaning jobs! There have been a lot of very positive comments since! We are experiencing the usual seasonal dip in cinema attendance at the moment which was expected, but there are many interesting Films with Q&A’s, NT productions and Non- Cinema activities to look out for. Ie Games evenings. We are not getting the best out of Rota Central at the moment. It is very useful as it can give us quick and easy statistics on volunteer input to the Cinema, for example. We all recognise that Rapid Response is needed to allow last minute communication etc, but if you do come down to help following a message on ‘RR’ could you please make sure that you have put the shift into Rota Central. The staff will try to remind us! Volunteer Meeting –Tuesday September 24th We are planning to have a Meeting on September 24th at 5-6pm: could you let me, Rota Central, Rapid Response or FOH if you can come along and also if you can’t. sue.clements58@virginmedia.com New Volunteers and Social MediaWe are always keen to have new volunteers so please keep a look out!
